What is a curly Missouri Fox Trotter
Many people think that curly MFT’s are simply the result of gaited horses being crossed with a
Bashkir curly, for the purpose of making a ‘designer breed’. But in fact, they are completely genuine!
In 1956, two curly-coated, gaited stallions of unknown background were bought at an auction by Vic Clemens in
Tennessee and brought to Missouri. They were revered for their
They had closely resembled Missouri Fox Trotters in build and gait, and so after the death of one, the other,
known as Curly Jim, was bred closely to Missouri Fox Trotters and ponies for many years.
As a result, his prominent bloodline has been deemed to be a true Fox Trotter source. One of his grandsons
was the infamous Walker’s Prince T, another prominent name in our own horses today. They are truly gaited curly
Fox Trotters, with legitimate lines that we are carrying on and hoping to share with the world.
